Reproduction Italian 17th century frame with corner & centre arabesques

This reproduction Italian 17th century frame had a sienna coloured painted ground with gilded rails; corner and centre arabesque detailing to the frieze.  Sections of the mouldings were water gilded, distressed and toned.  We mixed our own paint to match the antique frame before creating the delicate arabesques.  The client required a slightly cleaner and less distressed finish from the original frame, so careful ageing and subtle toning were adopted for the overall look. The final image shows the antique frame in the foreground with the reproduction behind.  The antique frame and commission was from Paul Mitchell Ltd.
